How can cinemas Party On outside of their own venues? Harkins Theatres in Arizona had a terrific idea, while at the same time celebrating an iconic filming location.

Although 1989’s hit Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, starring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, took place in California, it was largely filmed in Metro Phoenix. Included in Arizona’s filming locations was the Circle K convenience store in Tempe, which closed its doors for good in late May.

As a tribute to the location that played such a large and memorable role in the movie for only a brief period of time, Harkins Theatres presented two screenings of the cult movie classic in the store’s parking lot on May 18. The screen was provided by Arizona’s own Severtson Screens. Each screening sold out quickly.

The event included beach chair seating with wireless headphones, a Harkins popcorn truck, a live DJ blasting 80’s music, trivia, contests, a photo phone booth, and more.

What a great way not only to pay tribute to the movie and the local community, but also promoting its own identity outside of traditional marketing initiatives.
